It’s time for a party y’all! A Party with a Purpose that is!
On August 22, 2014 the Brothers hosted the 2nd annual Beat the Greeks Back to School Supply Drive. The basis for this monumental event was the men of Alpha challenged the other Historically Black fraternities and sororities to see which organization would raise the most in donated school supplies. Of the ‘Divine Nine’, six participated in this challenge: Alphas, AKAs, Iotas, Deltas, Zetas, and Sigma Gamma Rhos.
This one event collected an enormous amount of school supplies to help kids in our community in need. The sisters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. collected the most donated school supplies and elected to award the winnings to all the K-8 Toledo Public School elementary schools throughout the city.

Ivy and Ice Picnic
On Sunday we held our annual Ivy and Ice picnic with the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. It was a great family event with a lot of food and fun.
Can’t wait until next year’s Alpha Weekend! Stay tuned for the details 🙂
What a great weekend for golf. Alpha Xi Lambda Chapter held its 20th annual scholarship golf scramble at Heather Downs Country Club on Saturday, August 23, 2014. But before the tournament, we had our annual Youth Clinic on Thursday, August 21st. There were approximately 12 youth present and they learned how to putt, chip and drive the ball. Some enjoyed it so much that they are ready to take lessons.
A total of 30 golfers participated in the golf scramble on a beautiful sunny Saturday with an 8am shotgun start and the greens were perfect! After the tournament we enjoyed a delicious BBQ rib and chicken dinner, salad, macaroni and cheese, and green beans.
Thanks to our sponsors and participants we raised almost $5,000 in scholarship monies to be awarded to deserving minority high school senior males. These scholarships are awarded every year in May. The golf tournament is one of two major scholarship events that we hold each year. The next event will be the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast, which will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015. Details coming soon…..
On Wednesday, May 21st at Heather Downs Country Club, we awarded five young high school males $1,000 scholarships each for college this coming fall. The event was well attended by both brothers and special guests and we all enjoyed the fellowship with those five young men and their families. In addition, we were able to hear encouraging words from Brother District Director Brandon R. Tucker.
